PSC sailors dominate Oppy Inlands Regatta Fleet

PSC sailors dominate the Optimist Inlands Regatta Fleet

Eleven Papercourt sailors joined the 101 entries for the 2011 Inlands Nationals Regatta fleet at Grafham on May 14/15th. Sailing on Saturday was cancelled when the wind peaked at over 25 knots after the fleet had sailed to the race area – so there was an afternoon in the playground as the Main Fleet raced. On Sunday 5 races were sailed with a wind varying from force 3 to top end force 5 as squalls came across the lake. Papercourt sailors reveled in the conditions.

After winning the first two races in his flight James Hammett finished the last two with a 3,4 to finish second overall. He was to tie with the eventual winner on points but narrowly missed out on the tiebreak. It could not have been closer. There were other successes also for the Papercourt sailors. Zoe James counted a race win for 5th overall and first girl, Nicholas Walters finished 9th with Christopher James 10th – 4 sailors in the top 10 – a statistic no other club could match. Annabelle Whelan, Alice Handley and Charles Handley all finished in the top half of the fleet.

The Papercourt Winter Squad all improved on last year’s results and led by James Hammett and Zoe James really put a marker down ahead of the Nationals in July.
