PSC Topper Open Meeting - 15 May 2011

Topper Open 2011

15 Papercourt Topper sailors were joined by 17 visitors for the 2011 Topper Travellers event on Sunday 15th May.  A difficult north westerly wind combined with a massive amount of weed confined the fleet to the top section of the lake.

Despite the tricky conditions, the race officer Peter Lytton did an excellent job of delivering a course with three windward legs in the available space. Racing was close throughout the fleet with constant place changes due to the shifting 5 to 10 knot wind. There were many great individual performances by PSC sailors throughout the fleet, showing how much improvement has been achieved during the winter training.

Despite PSC sailors doing their best, the overall winner of the event was Felix Crowther (QMSC) by a narrow margin from our own Clive Jackson.  Third place was secured by James Cook due to a well deserved fourth race win. William Birchall sailed well for 6th overall and Angus Franz did fantastically to finish 4th and 2nd in races two and three to finish 7th overall (leading non squad sailor). Teressa Franz was first PSC girl sailor (10th) and Nick Wishart showed quite a few squaddies how to do it by finishing 11th overall after a very consistent series. Other PSC results were:

Mathew Hodges  -13th
Alice Cook - 15th
Anna Lucus-Clements - 19th
George Meek -  20th
George Zavos  - 24th
Hywel Finden-Brown  - 25th
Stuart Wishart - 29th
Wiliam Cook - 30th
Oscar O'Regan - 31st

Thanks go to all the helpers who made the event possible, particularly, Lizzie (catering), Tina (admin and entries), Peter (PRO) and Yvette (turning a building site into a presentable clubhouse for visitors). Thanks also to Guilford Marine for providing a generous first place prize.
