Papercourt Weather

Ladies' Sailing at Papercourt

At Papercourt, we have four evenings during the summer months which are dedicated to what is known as ‘Ladies’ Sailing’.   It was launched as part of our Lottery grant to encourage the female sector of the Club to try sailing and feel that the water was accessible without any intimidation from racing.  It is all about encouraging more women to share in the pleasure of sailing in a relaxed and friendly environment.

The aim is to encourage a broad range of sailing experience and ability.  You might be a complete novice, a bit rusty after a break, or just want some time on the water without the pressure of racing.  There is expert coaching at hand with experienced sailors who can take you out in two-handed boats or, if you have some sailing experience, you might consider a single-handed dinghy.  For those of you who do not have your own boat, a selection of Club boats is available free of charge.

These evenings were very successful last year with various boats being sailed and lots of enthusiastic sailors.  It’s an opportunity to see if the sport is for you or to practise various aspects of your sailing.  Of course, the weather plays a crucial part in terms of wind speed and direction, but we are ever hopeful of a fair breeze and a calm south-westerly!

The Clubhouse and bar are open afterwards where we congregate for a drink and a chat and, if it’s a warm evening, the barbecue will be alight which makes for a really relaxed, social gathering.

The Ladies’ Sailing evenings for 2009 are as follows:

Monday 18 May

  Monday 15 June

Monday 6 July

  Monday 24 August

If you are interested in any of these special evenings, please either email me or add your name to the form which will be posted in the Clubhouse nearer the time.
