Jamie Smith finishes 10th in Regatta Fleet at Optimist Inlands

25 Papercourt sailors braved 30 knot gusts at the Optimist Inlands at Grafham on 16/17 May. On Saturday the 20 knot (gusting 30 knot) wind resulted in the Regatta Fleet sailing to the start line on the other side of the lake then sailing back again with racing cancelled for them for the day. There were many Papercourt sailors for whom the Main Fleet was "the norm" but for some of our youngsters, they braved the Main Fleet for the first time. One such sailor was Freddie Verburgt, who was voted by his PSC friends as "man of the match" on Saturday for sailing in incredibly tough conditions for 2 races totalling 4 hours on the water but forgetting to go through the finish line in either race!

On Sunday both fleets managed three races, with two in around 15-20 knots in the morning and then one in about 25 knots in the afternoon. Jamie Smith finished 10th overall in the Regatta Fleet, with 3 top 10s and in the 3rd race he didn't hear the finish gun as he crossed the line so he did another lap just to make sure! Hattie and Anna Lucas-Clements also did very well in the conditions to finish 20th and 22nd respectively in the Regatta Fleet.
