Unusually for the Bloody Mary the weather was relatively kind and provided excellent sailing conditions for the annual "Blow the Cobwebs Off" event. Launching at Mary's is always a challenge, but this year a gusty F4-5 straight up the slipways, made it particularly difficult. After a hairy start the wind moderated to a steady force 3, which suited the more traditional boats and meant that the majority of the high tech skiffs and foilers didn't quite get through the fleet. When the finishing gun went 2 1/2 hours later Papercourt sailors were spread throughout the fleet. James and Sam were first RS 200 in 39th pipping rusty Rob by one place. Olly and Jack closely followed in the Radials in 49th and 60th respectively. Jon and Sue were great upwind but not so great downwind and came in 103rd (too much practicing at Papercourt). Simon actually lead the race at one stage and finished as 1st laser 4.7. Frank and Dave survived the start and hung in there for 2 1/2 hours to post very respectable finishes. Phillip and Olly broke their boat as soon as they launched but repaired it and carried on to complete the race, while Andrew and Charlie sailed with a duck jammed in their self
bailer and know that they should have broken the hip flask out earlier.
