Former Papercourt youth sailor, Fiona Hampshire, has been nominated for the Yachts and Yachting magazine Amateur Sailor of the Year award.
Despite the best efforts of Storm Brian, Papercourt’s young sailors carried on with their Sailathon on 21 October and raised £2,000 for the RNLI. Well done!
Following an external nomination and a visit by the Deputy Mayor, Papercourt Sailability has been awarded the Guildford Borough, Mayor’s Award for Access to Sport. This important award recognises the great work of the numerous members who run our Sailability section, providing inclusive sailing for everyone no matter what their disability.
Sailability runs on Friday afternoons, two or three times a month during the summer. More details are on the Sailability page.
A team of three boats from Papercourt recently took part in the 71st Firefly Nationals at Felixstowe Ferry Sailing Club, in winds sometimes exceeding 25 knots. All three boats were crewed by 12 year olds or younger from the Club’s Youth Section – the three youngest crews in the regatta! In a very competitive fleet Ed and Sophie Smith came 4th overall, Will and Polly Mason were 9th, and Jason and Toby Aldous were 13th.
