The Wanderer is one of the best 14′ general purpose sailing dinghies
available. It is equally at home pottering in tidal estuaries or racing in a strong breeze with the spinnaker up. It was originally designed by Ian
Porter at the request of Margaret Dye who wanted a boat that was easy to handle single-handed when her husband was too busy to sail their Wayfarer. While the Wanderer can happily be sailed single-handed, it can take up to four people, so is a great boat for sailing as a family. If you find the wind unexpectedly rises while out cruising, the main can easily be reefed and the genoa furled so you can get home safely. On the other hand, if the wind drops, the Wanderer can be fitted with an outboard. Papercourt has adopted the Wanderer as a training boat, selected for its stability and its robustness. There is an active class association who organise racing and cruising events. The emphasis is on having fun in the boat. The current model built by Hartley Boats is totally GRP so virtually maintenance free,
meaning you can enjoy more time on the water and less in the boat park.
